Author gmtc Date 2020-04-21 21:14 Views 2988 The ICTA Board would like to provide you with another update on our plans for the upcoming season.

We are going to hold our Spring AGM on a virtual platform on Wednesday, May 6 at 7:00pm (and not in-person, on April 28, as initially intended). We will be sending out the Agenda and all the other relevant documents in the next few days.

As the ICTA continues to have ongoing expenses, we would like to remind everyone that the club membership fee of $60 is still due by April 28. No team fees will be charged this year unless we can schedule a season. Here is the link on the payment options:

On April 7, the Divisional Court of Ontario issued a ruling on our appeal of the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario ruling indicating that the ICTA was discriminating based on gender with its current 8:4 format for its Mixed League. The Divisional Court upheld the HRTO’s decision. A copy of the Divisional Court’s ruling can be found here.

It should be noted that the Divisional Court could only rule as to whether the decision from the HRTO was reasonable and was based solely on legal arguments. There was no review of the evidence or “correctness” of the original ruling.

An overview and vote on next steps will be part of the Agenda at the coming AGM.

Finally, as sad this is, we are forced to announce the cancellation of the 2020 Junior League. The timing of the Jr. League only works in the spring.

We are also announcing that the Tennis Rocks Festival will be cancelled, since the event was planned to take place on May 30 and 31 at the Aviva Centre.

Finally, we are cancelling the ICTA Championships. We feel that a full season is more inclusive to all of our clubs and players and this should be our focus at this time. If we are able to start play again in July, we are still hoping to have a fairly long regular season for our adult leagues.

Be well and be safe,

The ICTA Executive
